Domain Four Reflection: Professional Responsibilities
One of the ways I model professionalism is by keeping all possible lines of communication open with students and families. I update my eboard with homework assignments on a weekly basis so that students and parents are aware of what is going on in the classroom. I post Prezis presented in class, important graphic organizers and materials given out in class, and helpful links for students throughout each quarter. I have tabs that inform students and parents of the homework for each quarter, upcoming quizzes and exam dates. I update the grades on Infinite Campus regularly so parents and students are aware of the grades that are being received in class. I invite parental contact for any questions or concerns that they may have about their child’s progress by listing contact information on the district e-board as well.
As a teacher at West Hollow Middle School, I feel that it is my responsibility to act as a positive role model for my students, and that truly begins with professionalism. Being professional is imperative. In order to maintain my professional responsibilities, I arrive early to work in order to prepare for the day and organize my lesson resources. I make my photocopies ahead of time and prepare my materials in a timely fashion. I report to my hall duty every day on time, attend all scheduled prep period meetings, department and faculty meetings as well. I am always available during my extra help hours, and welcome struggling students. I truly love my job and I feel that it shows in the effort that I constantly exert to ensure that my students walk away with a wonderful experience as 7th graders.
Another area of professional responsibility is searching for ways to bring interesting material to the classroom. One way of doing this is by attending PDP courses that are offered through the district. So far this year I completed a PDP over the summer for re-writing curriculum with the English department. I also took a PDP entitled Advanced Prezi to utilize in the classroom.
Lastly, I communicate with either my grade level department or my team teachers on a daily basis. I meet with department twice a week to discuss material being covered and share ideas. I meet with my team three times a week in order to discuss student progress. My team also uses common time to schedule parent conferences if necessary. Overall, I can confidently say that I have built great relationships with my peers and truly love working with each and every one of them. They provide excellent feedback about lessons and how to handle certain classroom situations. Being a new teacher, I have found that having the support from my colleagues has been a great benefit.

Domain Four Artifacts
Although I tell students when my extra help hours are on the first day of school, I keep the sign posted year-round so my students know that I am available when they need me.
In 2012, I enrolled in and completed a PDP course on designing Prezi presentations as a way to incorporate modern technology into my lessons. In 2013, I completed a follow-up course; both were extremely beneficial. Since then, I have created many interactive Prezi's for teaching lessons. Students love Prezi!
