Domain Four Reflection: Professional Responsibilities
One of my professional responsibilities is maintaining accurate student attendance records. Each period I take attendance and make note of which students are missing or present in my classroom. This year I have chosen to use a Weebly as our classroom website instead of utilizing the e-board. The students seem to enjoy the set up of the Weebly and have become accustomed and adapted to the change very well. In maintaining my professional responsibility to my students and their parents/guardians, I update and maintain my Weebly and grade portal regularly. My Weebly serves as an extension of the classroom providing students with upcoming quiz and exam dates, homework assignments, project information, extra help times, supplementary resources for them to explore for each unit, and more. The Weebly is also a place for students to go for answer keys to certain in class activities. My portal is always open for parents/guardians and students to access academic records. By utilizing these resources, both students and their parents/guardians are informed about what is going on in the classroom, in addition to how they are progressing academically.
Another area of responsibility in the education field is maintaining positive communication with parents. In the event that a parent wants to speak with me about his or her child's progress, I am available through email or by phone. I always respond to parental concerns in a timely fashion. I also record all conversations in my parent phone log to keep track of any conversations I have had with parents.
A third way that I uphold my responsibilities as a teacher is by keeping up with the evolving world of education. One way that I do this is through collaboration with my peers. I meet once a week with my grade level department members to discuss curriculum, unit plans, lessons, and assessments. Another way that I stay informed is by taking educational courses. One of the courses that I attended this year was the IBD training at Central Office. I found the day to be extremely informational and walked away with new techniques to implement into the classroom.
The final way that I maintain professional responsibility is by arriving early to work in order to prepare for the day and organize my lesson resources. I make my photocopies ahead of time and prepare my materials in a timely fashion. I report to my hall duty each day on time. I attend all scheduled department and faculty meetings as well. I absolutely love my job and I feel that it shows in the effort that I constantly exert to ensure that my students walk away with a wonderful experience as 8th graders.

On October 28th, 2014 I attended an IBD workshop at Central Office. One of our tasks for the day was to collaborate with grade level teachers and create a curriculum based on the unit sample we were given.
